World Cup Betting Preferred Netherlands against Slovakia

The Netherlands, as they faced Slovakia on Monday, was one of the biggest favorites in World Cup soccer wagering in the round of 16.

If they got more goals scoring from Vittek, Slovakia may have been able to carry on their surprise run. Slovakia needed to find a method to get through because the Netherlands has been difficult defensively. Slovakia head coach Vladimir Weiss was apologizing before the Italy competition for his squad’s play but following that win, he had some individuals singing his praises. Slovakia upset Italy 3-2 in that competition, eliminating the defending champion. The players have been quite unhappy with the media at home and most of them just disregarded reporters after the win over Italy.

Despite being outscored 5-4 in their three group matches, Slovakia progressed to the round of 16. So it just did not seem quite probable that they would defeat the Netherlands in Monday’s competition.

It was therefore not that much of a surprise when the Netherlands eliminated Slovakia from the World Cup competition with a final score of 2-1. The Eastern European squad should be happy with making it this far in their first ever World Cup appearance since Czechoslovakia split in 1993, despite the fact that they were eliminated.

The Netherlands exhibited some of the outstanding passing and scoring that is a trademark of the Netherlands when it is playing well.

The Netherlands has now reached the final 8 and will be competing in the quarterfinals. But at this moment they will be competing with World Cup juggernaut Brazil in their next competition. That’s going to be a much different competition than their relatively easy win versus the weaker Slovakian squad.
