Saturday’s Final 4 in March Madness betting has a marquee game between Connecticut and Kentucky and a game of longshots as VCU takes on Butler. Let’s look at both contests and the March Madness lines at the sports book.
VCU vs Butler – 6:10 pm Eastern – CBS
The Bulldogs are 2.5 point favorites with the total showed at 133.5. Virginia Commonwealth is the Cinderella story as they weren’t even expected to make the NCAA Competition. They had to play in the “First Four” competition and easily dealt with USC. The Rams then took out Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State and #1 Kansas to get to the Final 4. Butler has been the cardiac kids of the competition with last second wins over Old Dominion, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and Florida. The Bulldogs are the most skilled team of the outstanding 4 squads.
Connecticut vs Kentucky – 8:50 pm Eastern – CBS
This is the marquee game of the two Final 4 contests and the Wildcats are 2-point favorites in March Madness lines with the total being 140. Connecticut is the third seed whereas Kentucky is a 4 seed. This game almost never happens in the Final 4. In fact, it has just happened one time in history since the competition expanded and that was in 1990. The 3 seed that season was Duke and they beat Arkansas. This game on Saturday features the young skill of Kentucky against Kemba Walker and the Huskies. Kentucky has had the more challenging road to the Final 4 as they had to get by Princeton, West Virginia, top seed Ohio State and then second seed North Carolina. Connecticut has had an easier road with wins over Bucknell, Cincinnati, San Diego State and Arizona. Kentucky head coach John Calipari is major his third team to the Final 4 as he took Massachusetts back in 1996 and Memphis in 2008.
Improbable Final 4
Nearly nobody in March Madness betting forecasted that these 4 squads would make the Final 4. ESPN had almost 6 million people enter their competition match and just two got the Final 4 correct. Neither has an ideal bracket but that is next to extremely hard. You might have thought that selecting this Final 4 might have been next to extremely hard but with 6 million brackets and just two people that did it those are prospects of 3 million to 1. This is the first Final 4 in competition history where there is not at least one #1 or #2 seed. It is furthermore the top combined seed total in tournament history.
