I was watching the Mavericks-Thunder game last evening, and with about 5 minutes outstanding in the fourth quarter and the Thunder up by 15, I almost wrote it off as a overwhelming.

But I placed watching, and the Dallas Mavericks placed arriving, overcoming a double digit deficit in four minutes with a 17-2 run and tying the game to send it to overtime. And then the veteran team placed attacking, winning the game 112-105 and going up 3-1 over the much younger Oklahoma City.

One time James Harden fouled from the game slightly over midway through the fourth quarter, it was effortless to sense a adjust in the Thunder offense. After that, there was no identity for the youthful team, they stopped attacking the basket, and settled for weak long-range jump shots. And sadly, they didn’t connect on nearly all of them. Two crucial turnover and a couple of missed free throws at the end of regulation ensured it for the Thunder, who blew a 15-point lead that late in the game.

The Dallas Mavericks, though, were only brilliant late in the game, and Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitzki took control. His three-point shots, out of the question jumpers over defenders, and clutch free throws delivered Dallas back from the brink of a 2-2 series tie. When OKC could not get any shots to drop, Nowitzki was making a few of the most tough, most contested shots of the game.

OT was only a continuation of the last four minutes of regulation, and Dallas outplayed and played better than the Thunder, starting with two free throws from Dirk 16 seconds into the period. At that point, it was all Dallas Mavericks, holding the Thunder to 4 points in overtime and scoring 11 of their own to take the 112-105 surprise victory.

The Mavericks gave the Thunder their first sequential home losses in six months, and their first sequential losses of the playoffs. Match Five will be played in Dallas, and the Thunder will be looking to extend their season by only a handful of more days with a win. But it’s looking more most likely every day that Nowitzki, Kidd, and the Dallas Mavericks will have one more chance to win an NBA Title.

The NBA lines for Match Five post Dallas as the -6.5 faves. The sports book has the total scheduled at 198.
